We have founded the Asthma And Bronchitis Association Of India (ABAI) in 1984, which is Instrumental in organizing several activities for benefit and well being of asthma patients.

As the honorary secretary of Asthma and Bronchitis Association of India (ABAI) for the last 20 years, I have been instrumental in organizing several activities for the benefits and well being of asthma patients.

Some of the major annual programmes of our association include:

An Annual trek, Sports meet, Health check-up scheme for members, provision of emergency inhalers at discount rate and nebulizers on hire at minimal cost for economically deprived patients, publish newsletter- Asthma Times for latest information on asthma and asthma care, anti-tobacco campaigns, asthma camps and community programmes.

Some of the important activities of the ABAI over the years:

1992-93:

  • Trek to Kalsubai, the tallest peak of Sahyadri.

  • Workshop on childhood asthma.

  • Launched the newsletter 'Asthma Times'.

  • Started 'Asmalink', a telephone service for answering patients queries on asthma.


    1993-94:

  • Asthma Camp for children, New Zealand Hostel, Goregaon.

  • Peth fort expendition.

    1994-95:

  • National Symposium on Asthma, allergy, and Environment, organized by Sir. H. N. Hospital in association with ABAI.

  • Overseas asthma camp at Africa.

    1995-96:

  • Asthma check-up for taxi drivers at Thane.

    1996-97:

  • Healthcare 1997 exhibition on Asthma and Allergy at Nehru Centre.

    1998-99:

  • National Conference on Allergy and Applied Immunology at Sir H. N. Hospital in collaboration with ABAI, well attended by Indian and overseas scientists and doctors.

  • Launching of Asthma website.

    1999-2000:

  • Thane-Borivli jungle trek.

    2001-02:

  • Seminar on Asthma and women at Birla Matoshri Hall which focussed on special issues such as premenstrual asthma, pregnancy and asthma & quality of life in women asthmatics.

  • Trek to Karnala.

  • Research on effects of exercise on immunity wherein mainly IgE and cytokine levels in patient's sera were studied.

  • Study on road traffic police to investigate effects of vehicular pollution on their respiratory system.

    2002-03:

  • Programme on Asthma and Bronchitis for educating destitute children at Umerkhadi Remand Homes with the aid of audiovisual equipment.

  • Screening of a specially created film on asthma, 'Asthma Ka Khatma' utilizing puppets at CST station.

  • Tree plantation drive at Maharashtra Nature Park, Mahim and at St. George's hospital compound, as a step towards reducing pollution related diseases.

    2004:

  • Trek to Peth fort.

  • Launched patient to patient education programme to encourage senior educated patients to educate junior asthma patients in day-to-day asthma care.

    2005:

  • World Asthma Day - Rights of Asthma Patients

    2006:

  • Kanakeshwar Trek for Asthma Patients

  • World Asthma Day - Family empowerment

    2007:

  • Tandulwadi trek for Asthma patients

  • COPD camp at Siddhivinayak Temple

  • World Asthma Day Programme at Nehru Centre on Indoor air pollution

  • Inpo Exhibition at Worli Sea Face

  • Inpo Exhibition at Shivaji Park
